Residency
For filing a divorce case in Washington D.C., complete residency requirements should be met for the court to accept the case. If the court finds that it does not have jurisdictional powers or rights to hear the divorce case, it will not be accepted for hearing and in some cases it will eventually be dismissed. The residency requirements in Washington DC are as follows: Either partner must be a Washington D.C resident for at least 6 months in order to file a divorce case.

Documents required for filing divorce
Complaint for Divorce and Final Decree of Divorce – these are the important documents required to initiate and finalize a divorce case. Some other documents that are normally filed during the process are: Affidavit of Corroborating Witness, Financial Affidavit, Marital Settlement Agreement and Affidavit Regarding the Children.

Distribution of Property
Washington D.C. is considered as “equitable distribution” state, so as per laws, martial properly is distributed equally among the partners. If partners are unable to reach and conclusion about how to distribute property, then court will use three step process for appropriate distribution.

First of all court will decide what property is marital. Second, according current real state value, court will determine a value of the marital property. In last, court will divide the marital property in an appropriate way, not necessarily equal, instead what is considered to be fair.

Change of Name or Restoration of name
After filing for a divorce case, either partner can restore their name to their former name

Mediation Counseling
Court may order that one party or both parties attend a brief parenting education class before divorce being finalized but only if the case involves minor children.

Alimony
District of Columbia courts may order permanent or temporary alimony during case proceeding if it feels it is appropriate. In making this decision the court will consider a various financial factors except marital fault.

Child Custody
Child custody (whether Joint or Shared) is becoming day by day more and more popular with the District of Columbia courts. If parties request to have “legal” shared or joint custody, it will most likely be granted, in almost all cases. As for shared or joint “physical” custody, the District of Columbia court will determine this more strictly in order to find out if it is a correct choice.

Child Support
In order to decide a monthly support amount, parties can refer to the District of Columbia child support worksheet for best solutions. This worksheet uses the child support procedures that are defined by state law. The court will use this same child support worksheet as a building block for deciding the support obligation – i.e if parties are unable to come to a solution on this issue.

Barack Hussein Obama II is the 44th President of the United States and the first African American to hold the office. Obama was the junior United States Senator from Illinois from January 2005 until November 2008, when he resigned after his election to the presidency.

Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He was a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree. He worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and also taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004.

Obama served three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, Obama ran for United States Senate in 2004. His victory from a crowded field in the March 2004 Democratic primary raised his visibility, and his prime-time televised keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004 made him a rising star nationally in the Democratic Party. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2004 by the largest margin in Illinois history.

He began his run for the presidency in February 2007. After a close campaign in the 2008 Democratic Party presidential primaries against Hillary Rodham Clinton, he won his party’s nomination, becoming the first major party African American candidate for president. In the 2008 general election, he defeated Republican candidate John McCain and was inaugurated as president on January 20, Everything you wanted to know about Barak obama president of the United States book, merchandise, news, photos, videos, and more

Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father was a black man (also named Barack Hussein Obama) born in Africa and his mother was a white woman born in Kansas.

Obama’s father and his mother separated and divorced when Obama was a young child. His mother remarried in 1967 when Obama was 6 years old to a man named Lolo Soetoro.

His family moved to Soetoro’s home country which was Indonesia. Obama lived there until he was 10 years old when he returned to live in Hawaii with his maternal grandparents who raised him from then on.

Obama moved to Los Angeles for college. After two years he transferred to Columbia University in NYC. Obama graduated from Columbia in 1983.

Obama then moved to Chicago where he worked as a community organizer for three years until the age of 27 when he moved to Massachusetts so that he could attend Harvard Law School. In 1990, during his second year, he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. He was the first black person elected President of the Harvard Law Review. This remarkable feat was widely reported upon. He graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude in 1991.

He moved back to Chicago at that time and married Michelle Robinson in 1992. They have had two daughters, the first Malia Ann was born in 1998 and the second Natasha was born in 2001.

Obama began teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School in 1992 and continued doing so for 12 years. During this time he also directed the Illnois’ Project Vote which registered 150,000 African Americans in the state.

In 1996 Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate. While a State Senator Obama was able to gain support for ethics reform and health care laws. Obama re-elected twice and held the position until he was elected as one of Illinois two US Senators in 2004.

In 2000 Obama unsuccessfully ran for congress. He lost in the primary to Bobby Rush who is an African American Democrat who has been a congressman since 1993. He is still in the House today. Although they were rivals in 2000, Rush has supported Obama in his run for the Senate in 2004 and in his campaign for the Presidency in 2008.

In 2004 Obama easily defeated Republican Alan Keyes to become a US Senator. In fact his 70% to 27% defeat of Keyes set the Illinois record for margin of victory in a statewide election. The election between Obama & Keyes was also noteworthy as it was the first Senatorial election in US history in which the two major candidates were both African Americans.

During that 2004 campaign Obama was selected to be the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention and the speech is considered by most to be responsible launching his national political career. His speech was so well received that he was immediately considered to be a rising star in the Democratic party.

On February 10, 2007 Obama announced his candidacy for the 2008 Democratic nomination. At the time Hillary Clinton was considered a huge favorite to win the nomination.

The race for the Democratic primary became a battle between Obama & Clinton as the other challengers quickly fell by the wayside. The battle continued on into June as Clinton would not give in until the very end despite Obama’s clear mathematical advantage beginning in February.

In the general election Obama selected Joe Biden as his Vice Presidential running mate and they faced Republican John McCain who made a huge mistake by selecting the unqualified Sarah Palin as his running mate.

On November 4th Obama easily defeated McCain became the first black person (biracial to be more accurate) to be elected as President of the United States.

Barack Obama is scheduled to become the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009.

US News has ranked the following schools in the list of Top Ten Best Law Schools for 2010. There are various things to take into consideration when choosing where to invest your future, and the quantitative and qualitative scores provided through these rankings can be very beneficial throughout your decision making process. Since there are a few ties in the list, the 12 schools have been broken into chunks of three, with a little tidbit about each.

1) Yale: New Haven, CT
2) Harvard: Cambridge, MA
3) Stanford: Stanford, CA

These top three powerhouses have been widely regarded as the best law schools in the nation for decades. All three are private, with gorgeous campuses, and dominating undergraduate football programs. They are each somewhat off the beaten path, allowing each student to breathe in scholarly air every moment.

4) Columbia: New York, NY
5) New York University: New York, NY
6) UC Berkeley: Berkeley, CA

For those of you who are looking for a city vibe surrounding an island of knowledge, one of these schools is best for you. While Manhattan is, quite literally, an island, the communities of Columbia and NYU Law are very close-knit. The staff is extremely involved in the students. Students do feel like they are on an island as there are certain buildings at NYU that have 24-hour security in the heart of the Big Apple. Berkeley Law has a New England feel to it, without such harsh winters and muggy summers.

6) University of Chicago: Chicago, IL
7) U Penn: Philadelphia, PA
University of Michigan at Ann Arbor: Ann Arbor, MI

Bigger does not always mean better. These large schools are ranked high based on their sheer volume of students, but it can be easy to fall through the cracks. Whenever considering a big school, be sure to get in contact with an advisor or counselor as soon as possible to ensure your own success.

9) Duke University: Durham, NC
10) Northwestern University: Chicago, IL
11) University of Virginia: Charlottesville, VA

For more of an experience, and less of a headache, these three schools tied for tenth place are in communities that do not revolve around the schools as much as most of the others. Charlottesville and Durham are small southern cities with quaint city charm and plenty of welcome distractions for the soon to be lawyers.

Each of the schools in the top ten is a highly regarded law school and will help you learn legal document review, supreme court case histories, and loopholes of various types of law.

Recently one of my clients asked me what I thought about a book on tax lien investing. The book that he asked me about is one that I do recommend on my web site. The name of the book is Profit by Investing in Tax Liens, by Larry Loftis. The problem with books about investing in tax liens and tax deeds is that every state is very different and there is no book in print that I’m aware of that does justice to every state in the U.S. My goal in this article is to give you a short review of some of the books that I’m familiar with and point out the pros and cons of each one.

Let’s start with the book already mentioned, Profit by Investing in Tax Liens by Larry Loftis. Mr. Loftis is an attorney in Florida, and I do find that the best books on tax lien investing are written by lawyers that are also tax lien investors. Mr. Loftis has personally purchased tax liens in nine states and the District of Columbia. In addition he has also either attended tax sales or bid on over-counter liens or deeds in four other states. He or a member of his staff has either interviewed or spoken with tax sale officials from all 50 states. This is probably the most comprehensive and accurate book on the market that I am aware of. It’s great for anyone that is just getting started in tax lien or tax deed investing and wants to know the basics. The drawback is that for some states there is very little information given. As I said earlier, there is no one book that does justice to every state. What I like about this book is that the author didn’t just look up the state statutes in each state (even though he is a lawyer), but contacted county tax offices in every state to find out what actually takes place. I give this one two thumbs up for beginners and one thumb up for experienced investors in tax lien investing.

Another book written by an attorney is The 16% Solution, by Joel S. Moskowitz. Though this book is written by an attorney, it was first published back in 1992, and last copyrighted in 1994, more than 10 years before Profit by Investing in Tax Liens. What I like about this book is that it does not attempt to cover both tax lien and tax deed investing but concentrates on only tax lien investing. As little as four years ago, this was the only book that I could find in print on tax lien investing. Even then, though, this book was already outdated. Not only does each state have different rules when it comes to tax lien and tax deed investing, but these laws and procedures are constantly changing. This book is still good to read and have in your library, but only as an introduction to tax lien investing. Any state specific information is outdated (it doesn’t give too much state specific information anyway), and any contact information is probably no good. I give this book one thumb up for beginners, no thumbs up for experienced investors in tax lien investing.

I’ve heard that the state of New Jersey is the second most popular state for tax lien investing. I don’t know if that’s still true, but I do know that NJ has the most complicated law and procedures for tax lien investing. It is also one of the most profitable and most competitive states to invest in. Until 2005, there was no book in print that discussed tax lien investing in New Jersey accurately. That’s the year that Tax Liens: The Complete Guide to Investing in New Jersey Tax Liens, by Michael Pellegrino, was published. Mr. Pellgrino isn’t just an attorney in New Jersey; he’s an attorney that specializes in tax liens. He specializes in tax lien foreclosures and related litigation, so he really knows the ins and outs of tax lien investing in New Jersey. Although this book doesn’t cover everything for the experienced investor, it does cover what you need to know to get started with tax lien investing in New Jersey. What I love about this book is that it concentrates on tax lien investing in one state, thus it covers what happens in that state more thoroughly than any of the other books about tax liens. This is a must have for anyone that is thinking of investing in New Jersey tax liens and a good reference for experienced investors in that state. I give this book two thumbs up, for both beginning and experienced investors in New Jersey.

When I first started investing a few years ago there was only one book in print about tax lien investing. Today there are several. There are more available than were mentioned here in this article. I want to caution you before you purchase other books that are written on this subject. There is only one other author I know of that I would recommend even though I haven’t read her books. That author is Lillian Villanova and the reason that I would recommend her books is that I know she is an experienced tax lien investor. In fact, I believe that she makes her living with tax liens; she is experienced in more than one state, and has taught others how to invest in tax liens. This is important because there are a few people out there writing books on tax lien investing that have limited experience. They buy a couple of tax liens, do a little research and then write a book. This is not the kind of advice or knowledge that you need in order to buy profitable tax liens. You want to learn from a real expert, who knows what the pitfalls are and can steer you away from them. Maybe that’s why all of the books that I recommend on my web site are written by attorneys.

Barak Hussein Obama, popularly known Barak Obama, has become one of the most famous personalities of the modern world. His feat is quite remarkable. After all, he has become the 44th president of the United States, which is nothing less than legend. He has the widely publicized honor of being the first Afro-American President of the United States. Since Mr. Barak Obama became the President, the world has always tried to find out about his past and his current activities from various sources. The following are some of the highlights of his rise to fame and history:

1.Mr. Barak Obama was one of the junior senators from January 2005 to November 2008, when he quit his service for his current position. He served as the junior senator from Illinois.

2.He is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School. He was also the president of the Harvard Law Review, which is a journal of legal scholarship.

3.He used to practice as a civil rights lawyer in the City of Chicago. Furthermore, he can also be said to be a teacher, as he used to teach constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School.

4.He started his presidential campaign in February 2007, following his victory over Hillary Rodham Clinton to win the nomination of the Democrats.

5.Subsequently, he defeated the Republican nominee John McCain in the 2008 general election.

6.Finally, Mr. Barak was inaugurated for his current post in January 2009.

7.The following is a list of some of his personal characteristics that have been gathered from different forms of the media.

a.Mr. Obama is from Hawaii.

b.He is of a mixed race, being the son of a Kenyan father and American mother.

c.Furthermore, he has spent time in Indonesia where he lived with his mother after his parents were divorced.

d.One of the lesser known facts about him is that he has won the Grammy in 2006. He won it in the category of the best spoken word recording for the audio avatar of his book known as ‘Dreams From My Father.’

e.He smokes even though the White House is a non-smoking zone.

f.He cannot tolerate ice cream even though he worked at a Baskin Robbins outlet in his younger days.

g.He has a wide collection of the Spiderman and Conan the Barbarian comics. He was nicknamed the “O Bomber” in his high school days due to his basketball prowess.

h.He listens to Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Bach, and The Fugees.

Furthermore, as is more than evident from the aforementioned facts, Mr. Barak Obama is not very different from the common man except in terms of passion. However, in terms of his presidential reign, he is still in the process of meeting the goals that he had laid down for himself when he decided to take on the responsibility of the entire country in his hands.

Luther’s life history:

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on fifth January 1929 in Atlanta Georgia U.S.A. He was the second child of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr. and Alberta Williams King between his sister, Willie Christine (September 11, 1927) and younger brother, Albert Daniel (nicknamed ‘A.D.’; July 30, 1930 – July 21, 1969). Luther was an ardent Christian from an early age since he was brought up in a Christian dominated background. King sang with his church choir at the 1939 Atlanta premiere of the movie Gone with the Wind.

King’s civil rights and educational activities:

Martin Luther’s involvement in active civil rights activism besides church teachings, were primarily caused by the Jim Crow laws, especially after Rosa parks was arrested for not complying with the laws. The Jim Crow Laws were state and local laws enacted in the Southern and Border States of the United States and enforced between 1876 and 1965. They mandated “separate but equal” status for black Americans. In reality, this led to treatment and accommodations that were almost always inferior to those provided to white Americans. Although it was legally required that the facilities should be provided, they were not.

.Besides this king was a member of many other Civic organizations Rights groups. These included: NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) and SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee).

Academic achievements:

Besides his work as a church minister Luther was also involved in a great deal of writing. Some of his works include The Measure of a Man, from which the piece what is Man? an attempt to sketch the optimal political, social, and economic structure of society, is derived. He wrote this book in 1959. His “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, written in 1963, is a passionate statement of his crusade for justice. Other books to his credit include; Strength to Love (1963),

King also organized and led marches for blacks’ right to vote, desegregation, labor rights and other basic civil rights. Most of these rights were successfully enacted into United States law with the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

After delivering on the mountain top speech, king did not last long since he was assassinated on April 4, 1968, on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

Conclusion:

During his lifetime and the legacy he left behind, King has touched the lives of many people. Not only of blacks in America but of all blacks in Diaspora. Due to this king has won many awards both in life and death. Among the awards include: Being the youngest person to win the Nobel peace prize aged only 24, The Marcus Garvey Prize for Human Rights, presented by the Jamaican Government, posthumously in 1968, the 1971 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Recording for his Why I Oppose the War in Vietnam, the 1977 Presidential Medal of Freedom was awarded posthumously to King by Jimmy Carter, and a handful of honorary degrees from many American universities and colleges.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary the definition of
accreditation is “to recognize (an educational institution) as
maintaining standards that qualify the graduates for admission
to higher or more specialized institutions or for professional
practice.” Law schools generally fall into three catagories of
accreditation, American Bar Association (ABA) accredited, state
accredited or unaccredited.

ABA accreditation – According to the American Bar
Association, “Law schools approved by the American Bar
Association (ABA) provide a legal education which meets a
minimum set of standards as promulgated by the ABA. Every
jurisdiction in the United States has determined that graduates
of ABA-approved law schools are able to sit for the bar in their
respective jurisdictions. The role that the ABA plays as the
national accrediting body has enabled accreditation to become
unified and national in scope rather than fragmented, with the
potential for inconsistency, among the 50 states, the District
of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and other
territories. The Council of the ABA Section of Legal Education
and Admissions to the Bar is the United States Department of
Education recognized accrediting agency for programs that lead
to the first professional degree in law. The law school approval
process established by the Council is designed to provide a
careful and comprehensive evaluation of a law school and its
compliance with the Standards for Approval of Law Schools.”

State accreditation – Most states have their own
accreditation process and in most cases give accreditation
status to ABA accredited schools. However, there are many law
schools that for one reason or another do not meet all of the
ABA accredition requirements. Some of these schools, however, do
meet the states requirements. Note: State requirements can vary
by state. If a school meets state requirements it can apply to
that state for state accreditation.

Unaccredited – According to the California Bar
Association “An unaccredited law school is one operating as a
law school in the State of California that is neither accredited
nor approved by the Committee, but must be registered with the
Committee and comply with the requirements contained in Rules
XIX and XX of the Admission Rules, applicable provisions of the
California Rules of Court and relevant sections of the
California Business and Professions Code. A law school operating
wholly outside of California is unaccredited unless it has
applied for and received accreditation from the Committee or is
provisionally or fully approved by the American Bar
Association.” Rules in many other states are the same.

Most states require that you meet certain requirements
prior to being eligible to take their bar examination. The
California Bar states “To be eligible to take the California Bar
Examination, one must have completed at least two years of
college before beginning the study of law or must have passed
certain specified College Level Equivalency Program examinations
before beginning law study and must have graduated from a law
school approved by the American Bar Association or accredited by
the Committee of Bar Examiners of The State Bar of California or
have completed four years of law study at an unaccredited or
correspondence law school registered with the Committee or
studied law in a law office or judge’s chambers in accordance
with the Rules Regulating Admission to Practice Law in
California.” Most states have similar requirements.

The foregoing suggests that many states will not allow,
non ABA accredited out of state law school graduates to take
their bar examination, unless they attended school in that state
or a school that is certified by that state. Therefore students
graduating from non ABA accredited law schools may not be
allowed to practice in any state other than the state they
attended school. Note: Some states have reciprocal agreements
with other states allowing attorneys registered in one state to
become a member of the bar in another state without taking a bar
examination in the new state.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, there are many fine law
schools in this country that are not ABA accredited.
Additionally, many ABA accredited schools do not offer night
time or part time classes. Finally, there are many more
applicants that spaces available in ABA accredited schools,
forcing many good students to attend other schools. Therefore,
accreditation should not be your only criteria in choosing a law
school or in deceiding whether or not to hire a particular law
school graduate.
